FAQ

  • What is a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist?
Physical Therapists assess and treat the musculoskeletal system. A Pelvic Floor Therapist is specially trained to work with pelvic floor muscles to assess length, tone, and functioning. A full pelvic physical therapy evaluation involves a whole body holistic and integrative approach as well as a pelvic floor assessment which involves both an external and internal examination of the vagina and/or rectum. We also evaluate nerve function, muscle length, mobility, strength and posture of the spine, hip, and pelvic girdle. Our physical therapy treatments are based on specific findings from our through evaluations and when appropriate may include hands on manual work internal and external, personalized prescribed strengthening and/or relaxation programs, and/or biofeedback to increase your body's awareness. • Do you take insurance?
Essential Foundations Pelvic PT is a an "Out of Network" Provider and does not contract with any insurance companies. This means payment is collected at time of service and that you are responsible for submitting any claims to your insurance if you wish to seek reimbursement. By providing physical therapy on a "fee for service" basis, we do not have to limit the time or the quality of treatment we provide because of insurance company restrictions. Physical Therapy clinics under contract with insurance companies are forced to allow the insurance company to dictate what treatment may be received and for how many visits and patients are often double and triple booked. Our mission is help you achieve your goals for your quality life quickly with personalized one on one care without limitations. We work for you not your insurance company. Please see Insurance Section for more details. Workshops, Events & Pregnancy Wellness consultations are considered a wellness service and therefore do not qualify for any insurance reimbursement.
  • Can I attend therapy while I am menstrating?
Treatment while on your period is a decision left solely up to the patient. While we understand that the nature of our appointments can make this seem like a definite road block, we are still able to treat patients during menstruation or focus only on external techniques and exercises during that particular session. However, if this is something you are not comfortable with, we can absolutely reschedule your appointment to a more appropriate time.
  • Do you see male patients?
Yes! We do see male patients for pelvic pain, incontinence, and post prostectomy. Please email us for more details.
  • Do I need a referral to be seen?
In New Jersey patients have "direct access" to physical therapy without needing a referral from a physician, midwife, or other health care provider. Occasionally, an insurance provider will require a referral in order for you to be reimbursed for physical therapy services so it is suggested that each patient verify with their insurance provider whether pre-authorization is required to be reimbursed for out-of-network physical therapy services. After the first 10 visits or 30 calendar days, we will send a report to your prefered medical provider to review our therapy plan of care in order to be in open communication. If at any point that physical therapy is no long longer appropriate for you or you would benefit from another medically specialized professional you will be informed and assisted in finding the appropriate care.
  • Do you have any COVID-19 precautions?
Yes! Masks must be worn by physical therapist and client. All equipment will be fully sanitized between clients. We have the right to refuse service to those who do not agree to wear masks.
